Versatile Fabric Storage Bins
Faced with a large stock of hand painted fabrics, I needed a stash-busting project. I liked the idea of simple fabric storage bins. I created a simple pattern for my own use, but there are plenty of examples (and free patterns) on pinterest. To create a box-shaped bin, I used a method similar to this tutorial: http://haberdasheryfun.com/fabric/diy-reversible-fabric-storage-bin. My resulting bins measure 7.5″ tall and are 7″ wide by 4 inches deep.
For each bin, I cut the lining out of the painted fabric and I used an ivory colored cotton for the outside. Since the cotton I used for the outside of the bag is very soft, I attached a medium weight interfacing so that the bags stand up on their own. Before stitching the outside layer to the lining, I inserted a ribbon loop into one side.
I now have a colorful collection of fabric bins that can be used to for everything from storing supplies, organizing a bathroom and even as a fruit basket! I like to use them with the top edge folded down to show off the colorful lining.
